What is a Visa and Do I Need One

Many people love traveling overseas. The purposes of the visit could be a holiday, adventure, business, studies or even to visit family and friends. Travel is fun as it opens up doors to new and exciting cultures, ideas, people and plenty of new sights and sounds.

When traveling overseas, some countries need to vet and assess visitors to their country. For these purposes, they make provisions for visas to be issued to people traveling to the particular country. A visa is an endorsement that is placed on a passport. This helps explain it more. The main purpose of a visa is to provide its recipient with permission to enter a particular for a particular period of time. Most countries need any foreign national to hold a valid visa if they wish to enter and remain in that country.

Some nations allow nationals of certain select countries to enter their territory without a visa provided the visit is within a certain period of time and purposes are visit only. However, for stays exceeding a certain period, usually 3 months, then the visitor will in most cases be required to apply for a visa.

Visas are usually provided with certain conditions and provisions. For example, holders of certain visas may not work in the country they are visiting.
